Training Visual Communication Skills

In the training of Visual Communication I analyse, make and show impressive, effective presentations promoting myself by using the social web. During the eight weeks I will show you some tasks we have to make. 


Self- portraits are evidences in which the ego of the artist reflects as a model with his motivation on other people. 
I have found some interesting and impressive self-portraits of a view artist. I put is in a virtual gallery and explained it in a show presentation. I thought it would be nice to make a video about the self-portraits in a story. You can click on the link below to see my video.

The rule of Thirds
It was a creation of painters in the Renaissance. The aim of this style of composition is to provide a bit of background in the photo, to allow the photo to tell a story. Simply the rule of thirds states that object of the dividing lines. The green dots as you can see in the image below. But you can also place the object along one of dividing lines.
The whole aim of the rule of thirds is to create a photograph wich captures attention. The theory does that by using human instinct.

Connotation and Denotation
Denotation is literal what you see. Connotation is the feeling, it's a second layer.
For example:





You see the tompouce, you KNOW it's litterly a tompouce. That's the denotation. You like the sweetness, the cream in the middle of this pie. That is the connotation.

I choose to make a digital mindmap about the earthquake in Japan.
It is a very important subject now days. The whole world is into the problem in Japan. There are a lot of media to use in this kind of issue. The whole world needs updates of information.
As we learn in the courses and training, you see there is a huge different between hearing about the news or seeing pictures and video's of the disaster in Japan. If you just listen to the radio, read a message on twitter about Japan, the visual image about Japan is not the same. Your brain can't create a image as it really looks like in Japan. People all over the world are seeing how big the problem is because of the images, video's that the media are showing.
The social media is also very important now days. You can see that you can send the news very fast to people all over the world. It is faster to send a Twitter or post a message on Facebook than sending a team from a televisionstation to create the news to show. It takes more time. Also the text and visual in combination in the social media web is a very strong medium.

How to use social media?

Motive:
I think it is for teenagers important to understand what the social media is doing with you private life and information. A lot of teenagers are putting their whole life on it. Chat and send messages to everyone, just to belong to the interesting group. Teenagers want to be found on the internet. They don’t think about the private things they put online and who want to read it can read it. They don’t think about screen information and think about what do I want to be found online.
Teenagers are in a part of their life, that they don’t think about these things and parents can’t watch it enough.

Set up:
I would like to create a lesson where students are creating a account on Hyves or Facebook. They put all their private information on it. Think about information like: phonenumber, living adress etc. The settings of the page they are making will be standard. That means that everyone can see everything of you. They also put a photo on their profile.

After the lesson I will show them with my personal account that I am not a friend of them. They didn’t accept me as a friend. I can see al the information and pictures they put on the private page.  The thing that I want them to understand is that they need to think about the consequences they put on the web. Now they don’t think about all these things and after my lesson they will.

The students also can learn in this lesson that you can get a lot of information from the social media tools. It doesn’t has to contain private information but you also can get important information that you can use if you need it or when you are just interested in a subject someone wrote about.
                                                                        
Instruction video
For the instruction video, I choose to make a video about making a tompouce. It is very easy to learn and the video can be watcht by children or adults. For children is it also very easy to make. I love to eat pie and I love to make it also. That's why I choose for the tompouce introduction video.
